ColourBlack cherry juice in colour
AromaSweet black cherry fruits overlaid with toasty oak, a hint of vanilla and gentle green herbal notes
Taste & Other Notes
Mouthfilling flavours, creamy vanilla upfront then ripe sweet fruit mid palate while the firm tannin/acid structure kicks in in the long juicy finish. Cherry fruits, red plum and oak spice characters dominate the mid palate flavours. A nice savoury style wine from Central Otago rather than being a big, fruit driven wine.
Winery release notes say:
Origin – Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand
Climate – Primarily continental, dry, with hot summers, extended warm autumn and cold winters
Aspect – Northwest facing slope, consisting of gravelly/sandy “loess”.
Varietal – 100% Pinot Noir
Vinification – Previously known as “Barrel Selection”, this wine was selected from the very best barrels of our 2014 vintage. The fruit was harvested in mid-April 2014. Time on skins approximately 1 month. After pressing, the wine was settled overnight and racked to French oak. The wine underwent a spring malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 15 months in 100% French oak barriques. New Oak 33%.
The wine was not fined, but was given a “medium” filtration. We expect this wine will continue to improve over 8 – 10 years. The winemaker is Sarah-Kate Dineen.
Tasting Notes – Deep ruby, with an enticingly fragrant bouquet, it is full-bodied, with a sense of youthful vigour and concentrated, vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity and harmony.
